OPENING A COMIC SHIPPED

A typical one comic order may arrive looking like this once it's out of it's packaging.

The first step is to take a sharp knife or box cutter and carefully go around the sides slicing the pieces of tape holding the outer cardboard pieces on. This should only take a few seconds to accomplish.

Once you have one or more out of the way.

You will now see the inner pack the comic is in with a cutting guide. I like to use a small pair of scissors to cut across the middle as shown and then down the ends so it forms two large flaps from the I shaped cut,

Once you have done that, you will find a piece of cardboard cut to the size of the backing board that will lift out easily and then your comic will be under it.

There you go, around 30 seconds to safely open the pack and if you're careful, it's ready to be used to reship another comic. Just replace the comic with one you want to ship, readd the cardboard and then tape securely to reestablish a waterproof barrier. We also occasionally use Gemini mailers or recycled ones that were shipped to us.

Larger orders are packed the same way so the main difference is they just end up thicker so it ends up looking more and more like a reusable box afterwards.

For those who are interested.

A comic is generally placed in a bag and board.

The bag and board if it's a one comic shipment will have another board placed on top to cover the comics front.

If it's a multi comic order, the comics are placed cover to cover.

Then two pieces of cardboard are added on the outside to stiffen and protect.

The bundle is then slipped into a bag and taped as close to waterproof as we can get it since we never know if it'll be raining when it's delivered.

Then we cut double thick sidewalls and tape them to the outside to protect the edges and further stiffen the comic from bending.

Since it costs nothing we also add corner bumpers to hopefully protect it even more.

The two outer pieces of carboard are cut longer than the comics so they can absorb impacts before contacting the comics.

For small orders we also add a finger of bubble wrap or crumple paper to further strengthen and protect the ends. Larger orders will get paper or such to protect them. The more comics you buy at the same time, the thicker and safer they are to ship.
